“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9).

God’s justice demanded our death. God’s mercy demanded salvation. God’s equity demanded fulfilling both aspects of His nature. So He poured out His justice on Himself so that His mercy might justly fall upon us.

“Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face” (Psalms 89:14).
